On Tuesday, August 9, Matt Lantz, BCI’s Vice President for Global Access, moderated a discussion with Assistant Secretary of State Jessica Lewis on how the US provides military assistance to its allies. The event was organized by the Seattle World Affairs Council and took place at Amazon headquarters in Seattle. Much of the discussion focused on Ukraine and Taiwan and how decisions are made on which weapons systems are provided. Issues such as training, maintenance, effectiveness, availability are all considered. The US State Department coordinates government assistance with other departments especially the Depart of Defense. This approach ensures US weapons sales serve US national interests. The discussion was fascinating and timely.
